Fire departments in communities surrounding Meadow Lake are receiving some gifts courtesy of Tolko Industries.

Tolko’s Meadow Lake OSB (MLOSB) plant donated some of its firefighting equipment to the Meadow Lake Fire Department on June 12. The equipment provides enough gear to outfit 10 firefighters and will be given to volunteer firefighters in communities surrounding Meadow Lake.

Meadow Lake Fire Chief Neil Marsh was at the plant to accept the donations and said most smaller departments don’t have the most up-to-date equipment.

“The intent is to pass on this gear to these smaller fire departments where good equipment is desperately needed,” Marsh said.

The plant upgraded to more advanced equipment in January and decided to donate the replaced gear as they still met standards and are in good shape. The idea to donate the equipment came from MLOSB’s production manager, Curtis Poitras and plant manager, Trevor Brander.

“We always love when we can do something for our community, and to be able to contribute in a way that makes our community safer is a win-win,” Trevor said. “We have the best employees and want to see them protected as much as possible at work; we also want to see our employees, their families, friends and home life protected outside of work.”
