Sox lose to Twins but feel confident for weekend doubleheader

Jun 19, 2019 | 5:25 PM

The Meadow Lake Sr. Sox faced a tough opponent and a tougher loss in their last game.

The Sox lost 12-4 to the Lloyminster Twins on June 18. The Twins were ahead from the beginning but the Sox were able to catch up and come up close behind the Twins 4-3 in the third inning.

“The guys were playing good and then we had one inning were they started to poke holes,” Owen Dancy said. “Then they started to get ahead of us and it was tough to come back late in the game.”

The Twins pulled ahead by two runs in the fifth and then another four runs in the sixth inning. The loss drops the Sox to eighth place in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League (NSRBL) and the team will need to win their next two games to get in a good position for the playoffs.

“We’re feeling pretty good,” Dancy said. “We’ve got some fresh guys and fresh arms for both games. We’re hoping they can do what they’ve been doing all year and get some offence to come alive and get us the two wins.”

The Sox will host a double header on June 23 where they will face the Macklin Lackers at 3 p.m. and the North Battleford Midgets at 6:30 p.m. The team will then go to the playoffs in early July after all teams have finished their scheduled season games.
