RM wants more done with northern highways

The Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake wants the North Central Transportation Planning Committee (NCTPC) to start looking at the road systems in the municipality.

In a council meeting on July 8, the RM went through the NCTPC minutes and noted there wasn’t much planned highway repair work in northern parts of the municipality.

The RM decided to request the NCTPC research the road systems in and around the RM of Meadow Lake and report back to them. They also want the NCTPC to place it as a top priority in their two-year plan.

“As a representative of Division 5, I’m disappointed that everything is south,” said councillor Blair Mysko.

The current report has plans to repair Highway 3 and 303, but there are no reports indicating upgrades or repairs to roads near Meadow Lake aside from a 20 km portion of Highway 155 north of Green Lake.

“Highway 4 from 55 needs to be fixed and Highway 26 from 55 towards Goodsoil needs to be fixed too,” said councillor Dale Sheppard.

Highway 26 towards Goodsoil was recently awarded the top prize in the 2019 CAA Saskatchewan Worst Roads campaign. According to Division 2 councillor Russ Jones, because of its poor shape, that portion of the highway is expected to be turned into gravel.

“We need to send a letter to them and tell them to start looking at more than south of the provincial forest boundaries,” said Jones.
