Rides, lights and games are taking over the Meadow Lake arena parking lot this weekend as the midway is back this summer.

Canuck Amusements returns to Meadow Lake from July 11 to 13. The event is sponsored by the Meadow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce, which has worked with Canuck Amusements for the past few years to bring the event to the city.

Meadow Lake resident Maanit Shah said it’s the first time he and his wife have brought their son Viraaj to the midway.

“We figured we could bring him out here to enjoy some rides and play some games and have some snacks,” Shah said. “It’s nice and it’s really good to have something like this in small towns.”

Shah said his son is still too young to go on most of the rides but Viraaj enjoyed the rides he can go on.

Sisters Selest and Natalya like coming to the midway every year and this year is no different.

“[It’s] awesome and amazing,” Natalya said. “We can get stuffies and we can go on rides. My favorite is that one over there (swing ride) because they go super quick.”

Selest said her favourite ride was the Sizzler and she enjoys going on the rides every year.

The midway opens at 4 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday with closing times varying depending on crowds and weather. Daily wristbands cost $28 per day.
