Part of Highway 903 is closed after a section of the road collapsed due to heavy rains.

Highway 903 is barricaded from the Highway 952 junction near Waterhen Lake to the Highway 965 junction near Cole Bay. Detours are set up on Highways 965 and 155 for drivers travelling North.

Steve Shaheen, Ministry of Highways senior communications consultant, said crews were monitoring the location over the weekend and estimate five inches of rainfall caused the nearby water to rise overtop the road Tuesday night, July 30. The culverts then collapsed along with the road on Wednesday morning.

Shaheen said they are currently in the planning stages and don’t have a timeline for when construction to repair the road will begin.

“In these situations we are at the mercy of the weather until that water starts to recede construction crews really can’t do much,” Shaheen said.
