Freezing rain warnings issued in central & southeastern Sask

Environment Canada issued freezing rain warnings Saturday morning for communities in central and southeastern Saskatchewan.

“There’s a pretty good band of freezing rain just to the northwest of North Battleford crossing the Yellowhead Highway corridor,” lead meteorologist Brad Vrolijk told 650 CKOM.

He said the band is moving through the area Saturday morning.

“Sometime after lunch we should see it either taper off or change to flurries and tapper off,” he said.

As it tappers off Vrolijk expected the system would head southeast.

Freezing rain warnings are generally issued when rain is expected to fall consistently or heavy enough for ice concerns, according to Vrolijk.

“Expect there to be the potential for quite slippery conditions or ice build up on roads and sidewalks,” he explained.

Highway Hotline echoed that statement Saturday morning reporting ice covered and slippery roads through the province.
