Gas leak at local business
The City of Meadow Lake issued a natural gas leak advisory after a gas line was damaged at a local business this morning.
In a statement to meadowlakeNOW city clerk Jessica Walters said the Meadow Lake Fire Department and RCMP were alerted to a gas leak in the alley behind a business at 204 Centre Street.
“A gas meter had been damaged, and was leaking a small amount of natural gas,” she said. “The leak was quickly stopped and adjacent buildings were inspected to ensure that gas had not accumulated inside.”
Fire Chief Neil Marsh said the cause of the damage is unknown though the advisory was intended to notify the public and keep people away from the scene to prevent a potential explosion. Marsh said the risk to the public was minor though traffic was blocked for a brief period so crews could attend.
