Five new cases of COVID-19, eight more recoveries in Saskatchewan

There are five new cases of COVID-19 to report in the province and eight more recoveries.

The provincial total is now at 1,835.

The new cases are in the Saskatoon (two), Central West (one) and Regina (one) and South Central (one) zones.

Of the total cases, 130 are considered active. A total of 1,681 people have recovered.

Eight people are in hospital receiving inpatient care. Seven of those patients are in Saskatoon and one is in the South Central zone.

Of the 1,835 cases in Saskatchewan, 277 are travellers, 906 are community contacts, 533 have no known exposures and 119 remain under investigation by public health.

Across the province, 69 are health care workers although not all may have sourced their infections from work.

There are 308 cases involving people aged 19 and under. There are 597 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 567 in the 40 to 59 age range, 301 in the 60 to 79 age range, and 62 in the 80-plus age range.

Of the total cases, 50 per cent are females and 50 per cent are males.

There have been 24 deaths recorded in the province.

In Saskatchewan there are:

  • 440 cases are from the south area (222 south west, 200 south central, 18 south east)
  • 363 cases are from the Saskatoon area
  • 358 cases are from the far north area (349 far north west, 0 far north central, nine far north east)
  • 271 cases are from the north area (131 north west, 73 north central, 67 north east)
  • 237 cases are from the central area (175 central west, 62 central east)
  • 166 cases are from the Regina area

To date, the province has performed 178,490 COVID-19 tests with 1,578 performed yesterday. Testing is available to anyone who requests it regardless of whether they have symptoms.

Fines for public health order violations

In the province and nationally, public health authorities are seeing an increase in transmission rates due to contravention of public health orders and guidelines.

Those who are in violation could face $2,000 for individuals and up to $10,000 for corporations, plus a victim surcharge.

So far in the province, one person has received a $2,000 fine for not self-isolating when symptomatic.
