A youthful perspective on council

Oct 14, 2020 | 12:50 PM

Kassidy Dunsing may only be 25 years old, but her life experience reflects so much more.

She moved to Meadow Lake four years ago and has spent the time since building up her small business, Eatery on Main, and other businesses in the community.

“I’ve spent the last year on the Chamber of Commerce and the last two years leading from my business. I’ve also been part of the spin community and our spin studio for the past year and a half. So, I’ve been busy in a lot of different ways but this is something new and exciting,” Dunsing told meadowlakeNOW.

That new and exciting opportunity is the chance to sit on city council. Dunsing knows she is the youngest candidate running, but believes having a whole other generation to pick from in terms of knowledge and experience is a major benefit and she’s looking forward to speaking on behalf of the younger community.

“Rather than me maybe leading on my own through all these other groups, I have the opportunity to work with so many people on the same level as me – wanting to lead and share that passion for building our community and doing what’s best for it. So, that’s what really excites me,” Dunsing said.

As a member of council, Dunsing said she would vouch for small businesses, especially those suffering because of the coronavirus pandemic. Ultimately, she wants to bring people and the community together.

“They say be the change you want to see in the world. I believe you can vote that change. Get out there and have your voice and opinion heard,” she said. “I am so open to learning and listening to everyone and I hope that I can be the voice and just share everyone’s knowledge and opinions going forward.”

Dunsing is one of 11 candidates running for six council positions. Mayor Merlin Seymour won by acclamation after the nomination period closed last week.
