Council candidate offers critical eye

Amber Ambroziak wants you to give her a call.

The Meadow Lake business manager is looking for suggestions, concerns, even feedback from previous councillors as she campaigns for a seat on city council.

“I invite constituents to call me and tell me their concerns. I want to be totally open and I want to be able to hear people and then bring their questions to city hall and get the answers for them,” Ambroziak said. “You hear people saying this or that should be done. So, rather than talking about it– let’s see why it’s like that and how we can change it.”

The social and bubbly manager of the local movie theatre moved with her family from Ottawa to Meadow Lake in 2012. In the past, she was a member of Citizens on Patrol and ran the Coop Kids Club for years among other volunteer positions.

“It’s such a nice area to begin with. It’s relaxing. It’s community-oriented where everyone gets along and everybody knows each other,” Ambroziak said. “But there are some concerns and issues that need to be addressed.”

“I want people to know they can come to me and I will go back to council and get them answers. I will make sure whatever their concerns are, they’re being addressed. Why isn’t there enough money in the budget for something? Why don’t we hire local contractors? I want to find the answers and then help educate the community,” she said.

And she’ll do it in a way that constituents understand. Too often, Ambroziak said political jargon makes it difficult to keep tabs on city business.

“Right now we’re working on roads, which is great ’cause that was a cause of concern, but people don’t realize how much money is involved. So, I want the community to be educated about why that is. I’ll find the answer as a member of council and then I want to be able to tell people in words they understand,” Ambroziak said.

As far as a campaign platform, Ambroziak told meadowlakeNOW it’s mostly an overall want to better the community.

“You don’t know what you can bring to the table until you’re there. I may have my mind set one way, but then will hear something that strikes my interest a heck of a lot more and realize, that’s my background and I can help make a change,” she said.

Ambroziak invites constituents to call her directly at 306-304-1880 to share any comments or concerns.
