Environment Canada says another storm is on its way

Get ready for Round 2.

Just a couple of days after a major snowstorm battered much of Saskatchewan, another one is headed the province’s way.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for areas around Leader, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Val Marie and Cypress Hills on Tuesday afternoon, saying a weather system moving in from Alberta would dump snow into western Saskatchewan in the evening.

The rest of the province can expect to see snow Wednesday.

“The system will weaken somewhat as it moves east on Wednesday, leaving the highest snowfalls over western regions,” the statement read.

“In addition to the snow, northwest winds gusting to 50 or 60 km/h will produce pockets of blowing snow, especially in areas west of Swift Current near the Trans-Canada Highway. The worst conditions are likely between midnight and noon.”

The statement said snowfall of between five and 10 centimetres was expected in the southwest, but higher amounts are possible near Cypress Hills. The amount of snow will diminish as one moves to the east.
