Province records another death, 153 new cases of COVID-19

A resident in their 80s from Saskatoon has died from COVID-19 bringing the total number of deaths in the province to 33.

There are 153 new cases to report in Saskatchewan today, Nov. 20, which brings the total number of cases to 5,804.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (three), Far North Central (16), Far North East (four), North West (11), North Central (14), North East (one), Saskatoon (42), Central West (two), Central East (four), Regina (14), South West (14), South Central (four) and South East (20) zones. Four new cases have pending residence information.

Of the total cases, 2,145 are considered active. There have been 3,626 recoveries.

There are 85 patients in hospital. Sixty-six people are receiving inpatient care; five in the North West, seven in North Central, one in the North East, 30 in Saskatoon, one in Central East, five in Regina, one in South Central and 16 in the South East zone. Nineteen people are in intensive care: one in the North West, three in North Central, eight in Saskatoon, one in Central East, one in South West and five in Regina.

Of the total cases, 421 are travellers, 2,589 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 1,216 have no known exposures and 1,578 are under investigation by local public health.

Across the province, 171 cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances. There are 1,239 cases involving people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults. There are 2,101 cases in the 20 to 39 age range; 1,571 are in the 40 to 59 age range; 720 are in the 60 to 79 age range; and 168 are in the 80-plus range. An age confirmation is pending for five cases.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males. There have been 33 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to date.

Of all the confirmed cases,

  • 1,670 cases are from the Saskatoon area
  • 1,236 cases are from the north area (413 north west, 580 north central, 243 north east)
  • 850 cases are from the Regina area
  • 787 cases are from the south area (293 south west, 317 south central, 177 south east)
  • 724 cases are from the far north area (512 far north west, 66 far north central, 146 far north east)
  • 509 cases are from the central area (228 central west, 281 central east)
  • 28 cases have pending residence information

To date, there have been 310,090 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan. Yesterday, the province performed 2,826 tests.

NITHA communities

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority released their daily COVID-19 update that are specific to their communities.

According to their Facebook page, as of Nov. 19 there are 221 active cases of COVID-19 in the NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central, Athabasca (66), Far North West (57), Far North East (54), North Central (seven), and North East (37).

There are 257 cases recovered. Six people are currently in hospital.

NITHA is comprised of the Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
