Wind, blowing snow making Sask. highways treacherous

Jan 20, 2021 | 11:36 AM

Travel is not recommended on a number of highways in southern Saskatchewan, including the Trans-Canada Highway east of Regina.

According to the Highway Hotline, there are slippery sections and blowing and drifting snow from Regina to Broadview on the No. 1. The same applies to the Trans-Canada between Mortlach and Chaplin to the west of Regina.

Travel also isn’t recommended on the Regina Bypass, on Highway 11 between Regina and Lumsden, on Highway 11 from Saskatoon to MacDowall, and on Highway 10 between Regina and Yorkton.

The same advisories are on Highway 16 between Saskatoon and Dafoe, Highway 5 from Saskatoon to Watson, Highway 6 from Raymore to Naicam, and Highway 47 from the junction of Highway 13 to the junction with the Trans-Canada.

Roads around Morse, Elfros, Leross, Kelvington, Wakaw, Rosthern and Outlook are under similar advisories.

An Environment Canada wind warning remained in effect across the province Wednesday morning, with winds out of the northwest gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour.

The weather service said the winds are to taper off from west to east Wednesday afternoon and through the evening.
