Vaccine eligibility expanded to include remaining phase one healthcare staff

All remaining phase one healthcare workers will soon be eligible to book their COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

Starting March 16 at 8 a.m., healthcare workers part of the phase one high risk group that have not received their vaccinations are being invited to book their appointments by calling 1-833-SASKVAX (1-833-727-5829) between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.

A list of eligible healthcare department categories are listed on the saskatchewan government website.

According to the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), proof of eligibility is needed in order to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

SHA representatives stated in a media release, “this should be provided directly to you by your employer. Please talk to your employer if you have questions. Booking online is not available for this category.”

Other areas of eligibility include those Saskatchewan residents who are 70 years of age and older. Bookings can be made by both phone and online but people are encouraged to book online whenever possible as it is a faster way to book an appointment.

Also made eligible today are residents in the Northern Administrative District between the ages of 50 to 69. Online booking has not been made available at this time so residents will need to call the Vaccine Call Centre at 1-833-SASKVAX (1-833-727-5829) between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. to book their appointments. Visit https://www.saskatchewan.ca/business/first-nations-metis-and-northern-community-businesses/economic-development/northern-administration-district for a map of communities within the Northern Administrative District. Individuals in this area over 70 years of age are also encouraged to book online.

Since the launch of the new booking system, “more than 51,000 individuals in Saskatchewan 70 years of age and older, as well as Northern residents 50 plus have been booked for their COVID-19 vaccine,” stated the SHA. “A total of 8,279 of those appointments have been made today [as of noon].”

Of those appointments, 80.8 per cent have been booked online with the other 19.2 per cent being booked via phone.

The SHA stated they would like to thank everyone for only booking appointments when eligible to do so and everyone’s continued patience is also appreciated.
