More pharmacies added to administer COVID-19 vaccines

As of May 4, the Government of Saskatchewan has added more pharmacies to their list who are offering COVID-19 vaccination appointments.

According to a media release, each pharmacy has a limited amount of vaccines at each location and more pharmacies will be added to the list as more vaccines become available.

The listed pharmacies as of Tuesday that will be administering vaccines or already are, is as follows:

Humboldt: Loblaw Pharmacy No. 4628 and Shoppers Drug Mart No. 434

Lloydminster: Co-op Market Place Pharmacy, Lloyd Drug Mart, Loblaw Pharmacy No. 1571, Safeway Pharmacy No. 8922, Shoppers Drug Mart No. 335, Shoppers Drug Mart No. 2364, Sunrise Pharmacy and Wal-Mart Pharmacy No. 3168.

Travis Henbid, who manages the Central Avenue Pharmasave in Prince Albert said there are challenges with the process.

“For us it’s our first time giving it out, just trying to figure the logistics of everything is more of an endeavour than flu shots that’s for sure,” he said.

Jash Patel owns both Shopper’s Drug Mart locations in Prince Albert. He said he’s excited to be included on the list.

“It’s good to help the community,” he said.

Patel explained the Cornerstone location is set to receive 210 doses this week of the Pfizer vaccine, but added both locations will have vaccine next week.

Marty Antaya, the owner of the Crescent Park Pharmasave, said it was good to be giving more people access to the jab and that would help bring the eligibility age down more quickly. He said it was important people phoned in for an appointment.

“We’re trying to avoid doing walk-up just because there’s a lot of paperwork involved with this vaccine, much more so than for the flu shot,” he said.
