Potable Water Upgrades

City of Meadow Lake receiving financial assistance from provincial, federal governments with water service upgrades

The City of Meadow Lake is set to acquire a new Actiflo clarifying unit for the water treatment plant. The unit is designed to assist with the water clarification process before the potable water is distributed to its respective communities.

Mayor Merlin Seymour explained the purchase of this system was necessary as the current model installed in the treatment plant is near the end of its life cycle.

“We were made aware of that by SaskWater before our agreement was signed when we sold our water treatment plants to SaskWater. They’re in the process of moving forward with the second device, getting it ready to put into place so when/if the current one fails down the road, then we’ll already have the new one in place,” Seymour said.

The city is said to be spending more than $600,000 on this project, while the federal and provincial governments are putting forward nearly $1,000,000 and $825,000, respectively. This investment comes as part of a joint-funded initiative that will see approximately $110.7 million spent on 23 infrastructure projects across the Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan’s Government Relations minister Don McMorris said these investments will help build better and safer communities across the province.

“The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to invest more than $36 million to support upgrades to water and wastewater systems, improve recreational facilities and decommission historic landfills to safeguard the environment. These infrastructure projects will help protect local economies, which are continuing to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic,” McMorris said.
