SHA to shift vaccine rollout from mass to targeted vaccination plan

Jul 26, 2021 | 12:20 PM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is changing tactics when it comes to vaccination plans in the province.

With the province now reaching a 74 per cent first dose vaccination rate for those 12 and over, and with 62 per cent of the province fully vaccinated, Saskatchewan Health Authority is moving from mass vaccinations to targeted outreach for those in the province who are unvaccinated or under vaccinated.

Starting August 8, SHA is discontinuing drive-thru and their online appointment booking system in favour of vaccine walk-in clinics in public venues. This will include “planned summer events, post-secondary campuses, retail locations including grocery stores, pow wows, provincial parks and recreations areas, community centres and more,” stated the recent SHA media release.

“Achieving the highest possible vaccination rate is the best way to prevent COVID-19 transmission,” Saskatchewan Health Minister Paul Merriman said. “This focused outreach is to further drive first and second dose uptake, meeting residents where they live, work and play and support individuals in their decision to make our province as safe as possible.”

“The provincial vaccination program will not stop,” Merriman continued. “But all residents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the readily available and convenient clinic options available now through Aug. 8. First or second dose, now is the time to stick it to COVID.”

Saskatchewan pharmacies will also continue to administer the vaccine.

Starting today, SHA will be promoting vaccination drive-thru, walk-in, and booking locations through the daily COVID-19 updates through the Government of Saskatchewan.

For July 26 and 27, vaccine locations are available in the Battlefords, Beauval and La Plonge, Big River, Buffalo Narrows, Cumberland House, Cut Knife, Creighton, Hudson Bay, Ile A La Crosse, La Ronge, Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Nipawin, Pinehouse, Prince Albert, Shell Lake and Shellbrook.

Details on clinic locations and times are listed on the SHA website.
