Province reports 54 new cases of COVID-19, 280 currently active in northern zones

The province is reporting another 54 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province today.

This brings the total to 50,614 reported cases; 650 cases are considered active and 49,382 cases are considered recovered.

In the six northern zones of the province, the current active case total now sits at 280.

The new cases in Northern Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (five), Far North Central (one), Far North East (one), North West (two), North Central (12) and North East (three).

Almost one-third (29.6 per cent) of the 54 new cases were in the 19 years and under age category.

There are no new deaths reported today with the Saskatchewan COVID deaths total remaining at 582. The province has a case fatality rate of 1.2 per cent.

Another 1,197 doses of the COVID-19 were reported today. This now brings the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,433,757 with 666,931 residents now fully vaccinated.

NITHA Data

As of Aug. 8 there are 110 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 22; Far North West, 40; Far North East, 41; North Central, six; and North East, one.

There are 65 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; 11, Far North West, 23; and Far North East, 25; North Central, six; and North East, 0.

So far there has been 4,092 cases (97 per cent) that have recovered, and five people are hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

As of Aug. 8 at 5 p.m., the Athabasca Health Authority is not reporting any new cases with current active cases sitting at 24 with two individuals from the Stony Lake area having recovered.

Officials from the health authority continue to encourage members of the community to get vaccinated as they have vaccines available at their facilities.

Vaccination targets have yet to be met in Black Lake or Fond Du Lac while multiple communities are seeing 66 to 100 per cent of their residents fully vaccinated at this time, including Stony Rapids, Camsell Portage and Uranium City.
