Province reports 321 new cases of COVID-19

The province is reporting another 321 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, the highest daily increase since April 12, 2021.

This brings the Saskatchewan total to 54,688 reported cases; 2,372 cases considered active and 51,709 cases considered recovered.

This current active case total includes 1,120 active cases in the northern zones of the province.

Four new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 607 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died. The case fatality rate in the province is 1.1 per cent.

The new cases in Northern Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (13), Far North Central (four), Far North East (69), North West (nine), North Central (38), North East (seven).

About two-fifths (35.5 per cent) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 years age category.

About one in six (15.6 per cent) new cases was fully vaccinated.

NITHA Data

As of Aug. 31, there are 339 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 25; Far North West, 70; Far North East, 212; North Central, 26; and North East, six.

There are 159 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; 10, Far North West, 38; and Far North East, 86; North Central, 20; and North East, five.

Athabasca Health Authority

After two months without any new cases in Fond Du Lac, the Athabasca Health Authority is reporting four active cases as of Aug. 31, including a member of the health authority.

“We are making all effort to contain the situation as many staffs were in contact with the said staff,” stated executive director of Primary Health Care, Taiwo Olubanwo in a recent COVID update.

A potential outbreak is under watch as some community event took place in FDL over a week ago, with the last one being over the weekend. Multiple COVID-19 vaccines are scheduled in the coming day.

Enhanced testing and contact tracing are ongoing. The health authority is asking for the public’s maximum cooperation which will be much appreciated.

The authority have restricted the services at our FDL facility to emergency and by appointment for this week.
