502 new cases of COVID-19 in Sask., five deaths

The Government of Saskatchewan is reporting 502 new cases of COVID-19 in the province.

The new cases in northern Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (22), Far North East (22), North West (63), North Central (29), North East (14), and 19 new cases have pending residence information.

Five new deaths were reported today. There are 746 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 that have died with a case fatality rate of one percent.

There are 4,798 cases considered active and 65,982 cases are considered recovered. More than one-fourth (26.5 percent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

In Saskatchewan, more than one in five (21 percent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of October 8, a total of 332 individuals are hospitalized; including 254 inpatient hospitalizations, and 78 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 332 patients, 253 (76.2 percent) were not fully vaccinated.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 464 (38.5 new cases per 100,000).

NITHA data

As of Oct. 8, there are 35 new cases to report today in NITHA communities.

Twenty-seven (77 percent) were unvaccinated, three (nine percent) are partially vaccinated and five (14 percent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 220 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), six; Far North West, 69; Far North East, 99; North Central, 27; and North East, 19.

There are 6,010 cases (96 percent) recovered, and eight people are hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority is reporting two new recoveries and no new cases throughout their communities.

The total active cases is now at six with five in Fond Du Lac and one in Black Lake.

The AHA is reporting Fond Du Lac will soon reach 50 per cent of their residents fully vaccinated and Black Lake will be at 20 percent fully vaccinated.

“We are optimistic that the CoVID-19 vaccine rate will continue to increase as we continue to host vaccine clinics – contact your local clinic,” as stated in the release.
