Health Canada approves Pfizer booster for 18+ age group

Nov 9, 2021 | 1:27 PM

Health Canada has approved the use of Pfizer’s Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine for booster shots for everyone 18 and over.

The boosters are to be given at least six months after a person received their second shot of a vaccine.

Currently, in Saskatchewan, everyone aged 65 and over is eligible to get a booster shot, as are those 50 and older in northern Saskatchewan and in First Nations communities. Health-care workers and people with significant health conditions also are eligible at this time.

Pfizer asked Health Canada to approve its booster on Oct. 1. According to Health Canada, it examined the evidence and decided that “the Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine booster shot meets the Department’s stringent safety, efficacy and quality requirements.”
