Jump in active COVID cases as 185 new cases reported and two deaths

The number of new cases of COVID-19 took a jump today with 185 confirmed; 117 among unvaccinated people, including 47 between the ages of 0-11.

Of the new cases, 67 have been reported today in Northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (six), Far North East (five), North West (29), North Central (24), and North East (three).

About 68 Saskatchewan residents who tested out-of-province previously were added to the total case counts.

There are currently 1,167 cases are considered active, a jump of 65 from yesterday’s total. There have been 78,201 cases that are considered recovered.

Two new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 910 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

There has been 80,278 cases confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic, 19,604 of which are from the North area (8,728 North West, 8,060 North Central, 2,816 North East).

Just over one-quarter of the new cases are in each of the age groups: 11 and younger (25.4 per cent), 20 to 39 years (25.9 per cent), and 40 to 59 years (25.9 per cent).

Almost one-half (47.1 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) was fully vaccinated.

As of Nov. 20, a total of 155 people are in hospital including 39 in ICU. Of the 155 patients, 107 (69.0%) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Sask. ICU counts, there are nine residents receiving out-of-province care in hospital. As these patients are receiving care out-of-province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard. Since yesterday’s report, there has been one patient who has returned home.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported one new case in NITHA communities on Nov. 19. The new case is an individual who is unvaccinated.

There are 30 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.
These cases are found in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 18; Far North East, one; North Central, 9; and North East, two. There have been 6,838 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and seven people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

As of Nov. 20 there were no new or active cases of COVID-19 in Far North Central provincial zone which includes Athabasca Health Authority communities. The AHA is still encouraging residents to get vaccinated with over half of residents already fully vaccinated as of Nov. 15.
