Active COVID-19 numbers nearly double over holidays

After a holiday break that started on Christmas Eve, the government of Saskatchewan has released all of the COVID-19 data from each of the past five days.

Since Dec. 23, active cases have almost doubled from 789 to 1,428.

The highest of the five days was on Christmas Day when 245 cases were announced. The lowest was on Monday when 137 were reported. Here is the five-day breakdown.

Tuesday, Dec. 28—162

Monday, Dec. 27—137

Sunday, Dec. 26— 155

Saturday, Dec. 25—245

Friday, Dec. 24—209

Out of the 908 cases, 676 are of the Omicron variant. According to the provincial government, none of the hospitalizations are due to omicron, the newest and vastly spreading COVID-19 variant.

There are 80 hospitalizations to COVID-19, with 16 in the ICU.

The province also reported that 83 per cent of residents in the province five years and older have received at least their first vaccine. Around 76 per cent are fully vaccinated, while booster doses are up to nearly 277,800.
