February starts with 661 new cases, two deaths in province, active cases decrease for third day

The province reported only 661 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today.

There are currently 11,370 cases considered active in the province, a drop of 838 cases from yesterday’s total. These numbers have decreased from a Jan. 23 peak that saw 13,290 total active cases.

One new death was reported today bringing the total to 993 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (19), Far North Central (three), Far North East (13), North West (25), North Central (39), and North East (13).

Of the 661 new cases reported today, 109 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 27 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 300 were fully vaccinated (more than 14 days since their second dose) and 225 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose.

Almost two-fifths (38.3 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Feb. 1, a total of 370 individuals are hospitalized. Of those 331 residents are inpatient: 137 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 169 are incidental COVID infections, and 25 have not yet been determined, and 39 residents are in ICUs: 32 are for COVID-19-related illnesses, and six are for incidental COVID infections. One resident is in PICU/NICU.

COVID-19 Summary for February 1, 2022:

There were 7,736 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, bringing the provincial total to 119,272 cases. There were 9,091 recoveries recorded during the same period.

Sixteen new deaths were reported Jan. 26 – Feb. 1.

From Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, 11,689 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of primary series vaccines administered in the province to 1,859,978.

An additional 18,360 third and fourth doses have been administered in the province from Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, bringing the total number of vaccines including boosters administered in the province to 2,325,135. Forty-nine per cent of eligible residents age 18+ have now received their booster dose.

As of Feb. 1, 89 per cent of residents 12 years and older and 85 per cent of residents five years older have received their first dose. Eighty-five per cent of residents 12 years and older and 79 per cent of residents five years and older are fully vaccinated.

From Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, there were 22,579 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 65 new cases in NITHA communities on Jan. 31.

There are 215 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 10; Far North West, 12; Far North East, 114; North Central, 72 and North East, seven. There have been 7,491 cases (97 per cent) that have recovered, and there are 0 hospitalizations.
