Potential for slick roads in the Battlefords, Meadow Lake
Plus temperatures in early February are set to provide another road hazard for drivers and pedestrians in northwest Saskatchewan.
Multiple areas saw daily highs climb above 0 C, causing mucky road conditions, as enough snowfall exists to freeze this evening, following several weeks of on-and-off cold snaps. Environment Canada is predicting overnight lows of -1 C through most of the region, with a chance of precipitation in both the Battlefords and Meadow Lake, the latter of which could also see flurries.
Both communities also saw light rain in the afternoon, which could further complicate road conditions with temperatures dropping just below 0 C and this risk remains into the rest of the week. On Wednesday, there’s a risk of flurries again in the afternoon in the Battlefords and Meadow Lake and could see periods of rain continue on throughout Thursday.
By the weekend, temperatures should drop to between -4 C and -7 C, with a mix of sun and cloud. This remains a few degrees warmer than the average for this time of the year.
