What you can expect as spring begins in Saskatchewan

Spring is officially here — and you can certainly tell by the heaps of dirty snow everywhere.

Environment Canada meteorologist David Phillips joined the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Monday to provide his predictions for what the next few months could look like in the province.

“It’s sort of the Goldilocks season — it’s not too hot (and) not too cold,” Phillips said.

“We’re calling for it to be normal; I’m a normal kind of guy. In terms of the longer-range from April to May and June, again, that normal weather is sticking out.”

Phillips says the “normal” conditions would mean it wouldn’t be unusual to see highs of 15 C or -5 C depending on the day in April.

More seasonal weather is expected in May and June, with more days in the high teens.

Despite the positive outlook, Phillips says the white stuff isn’t going away quite yet.

“I would bet the family farm or the fishing fleet on the fact that you’re going to get some more snow. In fact, I see snow possibly later this week,” Phillips said. “But it’s really good snow because it’s full of moisture. Farmers love it (and) gardeners love it.

“It’s here today and gone tomorrow, so that’s not a big issue.”

Despite spring officially kicking off as of Sunday, Phillips is already looking towards the summer.

“I took a look at the summer and it looks like it is going to be warmer than normal,” he said.
