Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser hosted at Legion

In just under two weeks, residents will embark on a city wide walk and search.

A photo scavenger hunt is set for May 14, hosted at the Meadow Lake Legion, to raise funding for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) education and research.

Event planner Monica Koller told meadowlakeNOW that they’ve done community suppers in the past. But since the pandemic delayed the proceedings in recent years, she said there’s an opportunity for something new while keeping the proceedings safe.

“I’m hoping for a big turnout, since it’s not all indoor stuff,” she said. “It’s not close quarters.

“The Legion provided the venue and allowed us to do our thing.”

Education is the main priority for the fundraiser. Koller, who has a nephew with CF, said many people assume it is just a lung disease.

“It effects many organs in the body and digestive system,” she said. “It involves lots of meds, lots of physio and everyday care.”

Participants will have an entry fee of $5 ($20 for a family), with prizes and raffles ranging from homemade quilts to a family pass to movie theatre with popcorn and drinks included. All of the proceeds will go to the North Saskatchewan CF chapter.

Koller said another reason she promotes this cause is that the administration costs are about one per cent of the money.

“So there’s not a lot of top dogs being paid out of it,” she said. “It’s focused on supporting those affected by CF.”

Following the scavenger hunt, there will also be a CF walk in Saskatoon that Koller and others will attend at the end of the month.

“I present everything there, we have a team name for the core group of people that come with me,” she said.

Registration is at 1:00 p.m. that day, with the scavenger hunt set to begin a half hour later. Call 1-306-240-8559 for more information.
