This week’s epidemiology report includes 710 new cases of COVID-19

The Government of Saskatchewan is reporting 710 new cases of COVID-19 and 19 deaths in this weeks integrated epidemiology report.

The data this week is from Sunday, May 1 to Saturday, May 7 and the hospitalization data is a comparison from May 4 to May 11. There were more new cases (765) and less deaths (14) in the previous report. Half of the confirmed cases were 50 years and older this week.

There were 7,099 laboratory tests in the province this week which reflects 5.9 tests per 1,000 population.

The weekly test positivity rate was 7.6 per cent which is a decrease of the previous 10.1 per cent.

They also report out of the 252 variants of concern found, 100 per cent were Omicron. The subvariant Omicron BA.2 accounted for 94.8 per cent of the variants of concern.

Also reported was 30.3 COVID-like illness patients per 1,000 emergency department visits — lower than the average weekly rate in the past six weeks.

In long term care homes and care home settings there were 10 COVID-19 outbreaks.

From May 1 to 7 there was 23,380 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the province and 97 per cent were third and fourth doses.
