Tornado touches down in west-central Sask.

A tornado touched down in Saskatchewan on Tuesday night after two separate tornado warnings were issued by Environment Canada.

Meteorologist Brad Vrolijk said the twister touched down near Madison, a small town southeast of Kindersley.

However, he didn’t yet have much information on the storm.

“It was later in the day. We’ll be following up in the area today to see if we get more information as to if it actually impacted anything if there’s any damage or anything like that,” he explained.

“We don’t have any preliminary ratings for their strength or anything like that, but we definitely had one touch down at least yesterday with the thunderstorms that rolled through.”

One of the challenges of seeing how strong the tornado was is not having many people around to see it.

“As far as reports go, we don’t have a lot because it’s pretty sparse out in that neck of the woods,” Vrolijk said.

He also said it’s likely the province isn’t done with severe weather for the week.

He’s predicting more storms will hit Wednesday night.

“We will likely see more thunderstorms tonight for areas along the international border. Almost a repeat of last night’s storms, (but) we’re not expecting a tornado threat today. But we could see more thunderstorms with hail developing (in the) Shaunavon and Swift Current area,” he explained.
