New ambulance rates in St. Walburg

Jul 27, 2022 | 3:59 PM

Rates are changing for ambulance services in St. Walburg.

Starting Sept. 1, WestMed Paramedics Inc. in the town will see rates change to $325 per call, as a result of being designated as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). The number, approved by the SHA in accordance with the relevant guidelines, is the same as all other ALS ambulance services in the province.

This designation comes from having Advanced Care Paramedics in the company’s employ, who are meant to deliver a higher level of pre-hospital care than normal. This includes advanced medications, airway supports and managing more complex patient care situations.

Other fees, like the mileage rate of $2.30 per kilometer, will remain the same. Fees for seniors aged 65 and over will continue to be capped at $135 per ambulance trip as part of the province’s Senior Citizens’ Ambulance Assistance Program.

Additionally, other provincial programs, such as Supplementary Health Benefits program and the Family Health Benefits program, will continue to provide financial assistance for emergency transport for eligible residents.

The SHA is advising people with employee benefits plans, or other supplementary health insurance, to check with their insurer about possible reimbursement of ambulance fees.
