La Ronge Petroleum, local couple raise $100,000 for children’s hospital foundation

Efforts from La Ronge Petroleum, as well as residents Denis and Lynda Renaud, have resulted in more than $100,000 in donations to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (JPCHF).

The fundraiser, which included wrapping a semi-trailer with the JPCHF logo, began two years ago. The Renauds, who both enjoyed long successful careers in northern Saskatchewan, were looking to give back to the community and decided on the hospital foundation because children have always been a priority to them.

So far, the Renauds have personally donated nearly $20,000 and a number of other businesses and individuals have contributed for a grand total of $102,065. A minimum donation of $5,000 entitles a donor to place a logo on to the side of the trailer used by La Ronge Petroleum.

“Whenever that truck is being driven around Saskatchewan, it’s a visual reminder for people that it’s an organization that can use money,” Lynda Renaud said. “The foundation helps make the patient’s experience in hospital much better. There are always other things that are needed and that’s where the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation comes in.”

La Ronge Petroleum has matched all donations from employees during the last two years. It was expected it would take four years to raise $100,000, but it was accomplished in half the time.

Renaud explained she and her husband lost a daughter more than three decades and they always wanted to do something in her memory. She noted the Watts also have a personal reason to support the JPCHF.

“Throughout the years, we’ve always donated to hospital foundations and things like this, but when this opportunity came up with this fundraiser for people from northern Saskatchewan to raise some money to help children, then we thought ‘lets go for it,’” Renaud said.

On behalf of La Ronge Petroleum, Leigha Langan mentioned several companies have already made a donation and have a logo that appears on the trailer. She said the semi-trailer goes all the way to Saskatoon, as well as numerous destinations across northern Saskatchewan.

Langan expects the company will continue to support the JPCHF for some time.

“It was Denis who started it in the beginning and we wanted to continue to support it,” she said. “We couldn’t do it without the people who donated to us that’s for sure.”
