Freezing rain warning in place for Central Sask.

Jan 22, 2023 | 11:27 AM

UPDATE: As of 3:00pm Sunday, the freezing rain advisory has been lifted for the Prince Albert area, but remains in effect for Melfort, Nipawin, Tisdale, Carrot River, and Hudson Bay and areas.

The travel not recommended status has been lifted for the Melfort area but remains in effect around Nipawin and Hudson Bay.

Much of Central Saskatchewan has been placed under freezing rain warnings as rain continues to fall across the prairies.

The areas highlighted are under a freezing rain advisory by SaskAlert.

The rain has created very icy and slippery conditions in the province, creating problems for highway crews and local fire departments. On Highway 11, fire crews in Osler and Hague were seen helping vehicles out of the ditch and laying salt on the roads in an effort to make things a bit safer.

According to Highway Hotline as of 9:40am, travel is not recommended in parts of the province including in the Melfort and Nipawin areas due to the wet and icy conditions.

The travel not recommended status has since been lifted in the North Battleford and Meadow Lake areas, but roads and highways remain wet and are subject to freezing.
