It’s a wrap!

The eighth annual Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation’s ‘On Air for Healthcare’ radiothon fundraiser has finished with a total of $443,219 donated for this year’s campaign.

CJNB, Q98 and 93.3 The Rock of Pattison Media were broadcasting live from the lobby of the BUH throughout the event that wrapped up at 6 p.m., May 12.

BUH Foundation executive director Leanne Ducommun thanks everyone for their generosity.

“We are absolutely overwhelmed by the community support,” she said. “This has just been an amazing day. We have a really big goal ahead of us on the campaign, but we are committed we are going to keep going. We believe in the community. We want to thank our donors for the support, and believing in healthcare for all for the Battlefords and area.”

Ducommun said an especially large donation was announced at 5:30 p.m., as a highlight of the event that touched everyone deeply.

“We received an estate of the late Gladys Milman, and a portion of her estate will be going towards the capital campaign, [in the value] of $250,000,” she said. “We do want to say thank you to Greg Ducharme, who was the executor of that estate, and did a lot of work to get everything put together. We are so grateful for that. It’s a beautiful memory of Gladys, and we are super appreciative of all the support.”

Q98 Morning Show host Nic Fransoo said he is thrilled to see how the community came together to donate to the cause.

“The hospital is the cornerstone in our community,” he said. “Everybody is going to need it at some point. The only way we can continue to see the healthcare that we need is by supporting it.”

All funds raised from ‘On Air for Healthcare’ will benefit the BUH Foundation’s campaign, “Medication Matters,” to purchase new Pyxis MedStations for the hospital.

Ducommun said this is the largest capital campaign that’s been taken on by the BUH Foundation, with the fundraising goal of $916,000 for this two-year fundraising initiative.

“Pyxis MedStations really are an innovative piece of medical equipment,” she added. “They are going to be replacing a lot of the current medication dispensing units we have within the hospital.”

Ducommun notes the new technology is important in creating efficiencies.

“It is going to allow staff to be at the patient’s bedside a lot more,” she said. “It is going to improve efficiencies on medication requests that are submitted through the pharmacy and approved for delivery through Pyxis.”

Ducommun mentioned that people can continue to donate for the campaign into the future.

“Continue to give,” she said. “$916,000 is a really big goal, but we know we can do it.”
