The Kevin James Meme Is Way Out of Control

Kevin James, 58, is the King of Memes after one of his old headshots resurfaced, showing him shrugging at the camera and thinking, who, me? The Internet loves it, and people are obsessed.

James starred as Doug Hefferman in The King of Queens, for which he won an Emmy.

But why now? Where do such trends suddenly come from? The first known meme using the smirking image was posted on X on Sept. 21 by @ChampagneAnyone and reads, “me after 1 double rum and diet,” according to knowyourmeme.com.

“I remember I had tweeded it once back in 2020. It did decent, with 50 retweets, 250 likes or so, but nothing crazy. I think there was too much going on in the world at the moment to appreciate Kevin James. I don’t think the world was ready for his revival. So I waited”
