Buffalo River Dene Nation receives government funding for community centre
A northern Saskatchewan First Nation is one of several communities receiving federal and provincial dollars for much-needed infrastructure projects.
On Wednesday, the province and federal governments announced nine projects in Saskatchewan will receive funding including the community centre at Buffalo River Dene Nation.
“Today’s investment in infrastructure projects across Saskatchewan represents our dedication to sustainable development, cultural preservation and community wellbeing,” Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister Don McMorris said in a release. “These enhancements will improve the quality of life for residents by improving access to water, promoting a sustainable future and creating community spaces for learning and gathering.”
Just over $1.4 million will be allocated to the First Nation from the federal government to help construct the 9,087-square-foot centre which will connect to the current water and sewer infrastructure. Over $587,000 is coming from the province.
