Sask. Party has full slate of candidates, five with impaired driving convictions

The Saskatchewan Party has announced they have a full slate of candidates, including five with previous impaired driving charges, for the fall election.

The party included the five with charges in a news release posted to social media last week.

Sean Wilson (2011), Chris Beaudry (2008), James Thorstenson (2003). Terry Jenson (1994) and Premier Scott Moe (1992) all have convictions.

The party will have 15 women and 46 men seeking election this fall and of those, fewer than half are veterans.

A significant number of long time MLAs that held cabinet positions, such as Joe Hargrave in Prince Albert – Carlton and Donna Harpauer in Humbolt-Watrous have opted to retire from politics.

Some have left under more unusual circumstances, such as Randy Weekes (former Speaker and MLA for Biggar – Sask Valley). Weekes posted a photo of his Sask Party membership card cut in half on the last day of the most recent sitting of the Legislature. He then took time at the end of the sitting to call out Jeremy Harrison (Meadow Lake) for harassment and bringing a gun into the building.

North of Prince Albert, Nadine Wilson (Sask. Rivers) was asked to leave the party after misrepresenting her vaccination status during the pandemic. She has since helped create the Sask. United Party and is running again this fall.

Her Sask Party replacement is Eric Schmalz, who took a leave of absence from his role as Reeve of the RM of Prince Albert to run for provincial politics.

The Saskatchewan NDP will be releasing their final list of candidates when the final two names are declared. Neither are in the Prince Albert area.
