Social media takeover of ‘Saskatchewanderer’ features P.A. video creator

Sarah Tweidt has been putting out content about Prince Albert and the surrounding area on her social media since the pandemic.

“I just really fell in love with our province, and we have so many hidden gems that I really wanted to promote them.”

Now, she’s doing that in an official capacity as she’s in the midst of a 7-day takeover of the travel blog for the province – the ‘Saskatcheawanderer.’

“For a long time, I thought you had to leave to find success, but Saskatchewan is filled with beautiful places, delicious eateries, and amazing people. I’m excited to get people inspired about the province we live in.”

A recent graduate of marketing at the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan, Tweidt worked with companies from Toronto and Vancouver on some collaborations this past summer, but it was the work she did while with her own Mom that was the most fulfilling. The two shared a love of travel and Tweidt said her Mom, Shelby Mayer, would be ready at a moment’s notice for a road trip. Unfortunately, her mother passed away unexpectedly this past July.

“I’m really continuing my love for travel and videos in honour of my Mom because she gave me so much and had such an incredible faith. I feel like, when things get really hard, you know an opportunity will come…and I honestly feel like its just her guiding me and helping me.”

Tweidt, who is originally from the Shellbrook and Prince Albert area, plans to showcase local eateries, lakes and parks. Among the ones she’s featured so far is River Road Pizzeria in St. Louis and Shenanigans Bistro Coffee and Dessert Bar in Prince Albert – a place Tweidt’s been visiting since high school and her family frequents for special occasions.

“If we have some friends coming to the city, we love to bring them there for the atmosphere, food and a beautiful little environment. I often say when I’m there, I feel like we’re in a bigger city. It’s such a gem featuring local paintings and of course known for their cheesecake.”

After her week-long takeover of the Saskatchewanderer, Tweidt said she plans to continue showcasing Prince albert and surrounding towns.

“Saskatchewan is very underrated and people don’t know what we have here,” she said. “I think if we want to see things do better, if we want change, then we have to be a positive change and that’s what has been really important to me, is being a light and bringing positivity because there is so much negativity online and I really want to promote the good.”
