Whether it was for the demonstrations, the activities or the free barbeque, Meadow Lake’s fire hall was a busy place last night during its annual open house.

More than 50 people came out Tuesday, Oct. 11. With the fire trucks out in the street, sirens lit and gear all out, Chief Neil Marsh said the thermal imaging camera seemed to be the most popular piece of equipment, besides the truck horns.

Mid-way through the open house firefighter Keenan Gill demonstrated the dangers of cooking with oil by lighting a stove-top grease fire and showing the proper way to extinguish the flames.

The fire hall constructed had a makeshift hallway with two by fours, ropes and cables hanging in every direction. Dressed up in turn-out gear and a blacked-out facemasks, participants were tasked with crawling through. The exercise was meant to simulate maneuvering through a building on fire with significant damage.
