Meadow Lake Kinsmen gearing up for Telemiracle event

The Meadow Lake Kinsmen are once again getting ready to host the Telemiracle 43 marathon coming up this weekend.

Kinsmen and Telemiracle committee member Duane Horvey is looking forward to the event and is hoping for a good response from the community.

Horvey said Telemiracle is an important cause to support.

“It’s all money that stays in Saskatchewan,” he said. “It all goes to a good cause; it goes to people who really need it and can’t afford (for example) a wheelchair, cane or whatever it might be.”

Horvey added people in the local community have also been helped by Telemiracle.

“We want to make sure people can get help if they need it,” he added.

Through Telemiracle donations, the Kinsmen Foundation assists Saskatchewan people in acquiring special needs equipment and having access to medical treatment. All funds donated benefit Telemiracle.

The event will kick off at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 and will run overnight until 5 p.m., Sunday, March 3 at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre. On Sunday at 8 a.m. a pancake breakfast is planned.

The event will also be live on the air on CJNS.

Area residents are invited to visit the Civic Centre to make a donation to help the cause. They can also call the pledge line at 306-234-3705 or 306-234-3706 to donate.

The Telemiracle event will feature a wide variety of items donated by area businesses and individuals that are up for auction. People can place a bid on an item in person or by calling 306-234-3400 or 306-234-3704. A bid board will be set up listing the items available for the auction.

People can make a bid anytime from 8 p.m., Saturday night to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Horvey said last year there were as many as 130 items available on the bid board.

“There will be buckets filled with various (items) so you can put your name in for a bucket,” Horvey said. “There will also be a photo booth there.”

Horvey is encouraging everyone also to drop by the Meadow Lake Civic Centre to take in some of the live entertainment planned for Saturday night and Sunday.

He said the organizers are also hoping people with some musical talent, whether they play an instrument or want to sing a song, to simply come by and take part in the show as well.

“We always try to accommodate them,” Horvey said.
