Successful brunch fundraiser for Meadow Lake Search and Rescue

Pancakes, bacon and eggs were just some of the delicious items being handed out for brunch at the Royal Canadian Legion yesterday.

The Meadow Lake and District Search and Rescue (MLADSAR) held a brunch fundraiser on May 12 to raise money for jackets and other equipment needed to aid in searches.

The brunch meals were $12 for adults and $6 for children. Chris Gill, one of the SAR volunteers, said the event went great and they were able to raise $480 at the brunch.

“I was happy with the turnout. We were selling tickets beforehand but we didn’t sell that many. There was quite a few people who showed up at the door the day of which was nice.” Chris Gill, volunteer SAR member said.

“The next thing we need to look into getting is handheld GPS’s. It will help with our searches just knowing where we’ve looked already.

“This is our second year doing this. We did it last year and we’re probably going to do it again next year.”

MLADSAR are a part of the Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers (SARSAV), who call upon nearby members to aid in the search for missing persons. MLADSAR is completely volunteer based and receives funding from fundraising.

In February, the Meadow Lake and District Search and Rescue team were called to aid the search in locating a blind man who went missing near North Battleford.

The next fundraising event for the MLADSAR will be the teddy bear picnic on June 9 in Lions Park.
