Jun 18, 2019 | 3:15 PM

An officer discharged their carbine after being rammed by a suspects vehicle during a police pursuit on the Waterhen Lake First Nation.

The Saskatoon Police Service is now investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.

In a press release, RCMP said officers were searching the community for suspects believed to be involved in a home invasion earlier that day.

Two men were reported to be seen in a vehicle in the area. Officers attempted to pull it over when they located it but the driver fled and led police along a trail, through a field and into a wooded area.

The vehicle came to a brief stop before reversing into the officer’s vehicle, setting off the airbags and disabling it.

The officers got out and attempted to arrest the suspects when one officer shot their RCMP-issued carbine after perceiving a threat from the vehicle, according to police.

Neither suspect was hit before fleeing in the vehicle, which was later found to be stolen.

The RCMP were later called to a report of the same vehicle hitting a home in the community. Officers located the suspects running across a road as the fled the scene.

One was arrested after a foot pursuit, while the other was stopped by a police service dog.

This suspect struck the dog several times during the arrest, according to police, and did suffer minor injuries from the encounter.

He received medical treatment by paramedics at the Meadow Lake detachment.

Dylan Basil Lasas, 28, and Stuart Alphonse Lasas, 20, are facing a number of charges including break and enter and assault with a weapon, assaulting police with a weapon, robbery and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, among others.

Dylan is also facing two additional charges for injuring a law enforcement animal and driving while disqualified.

They will appear in Meadow Lake Provincial court on July 8.
