Aurora Cinema open after month long renovations

Aurora Cinemas had its grand re-opening on June 21 shutting its doors for more than a month to complete renovations.

Amber Ambroziak has been managing the theatre for five years and is excited for the people of Meadow Lake to see the changes.

“It’s the same people, same crowd, it’s just a new look and new everything really,” Ambroziak said.

Renovations on the theatre started on May 17 and included replacing the seats, screens, speakers and lighting. A new LED board and some new signs were added to the outside of the theatre.

More accessibility options are now available including a dedicated space for wheelchairs, headphones for the visually impaired and a small subtitle display that fits into a cup holder for the hearing impaired.

A wall has also been added to cinema two to reduce the light coming in from the lobby.

Rainbow and Magic Lantern Cinemas bought the theatre in early March and owner Tom Hutchinson wanted the renovations to “reach every part of the cinema.”

“We’ve always managed it and its always been a family atmosphere here,” Ambroziak said. “We’re really grateful for the new owners because even though it’s a bigger company, it’s like they’re family already.”

Toy Story 4 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be the movies shown at the theatre for the first week after the opening. Showtimes for movies are on the Magic Latern Theatres website.

Regular tickets are $11 for adults, $10 for youth ages 12-17 and $7 for children under 12. Aurora Cinemas has also changed its purchasing system which allows people to pre-order their tickets beforehand.
