Jun 26, 2019 | 5:08 PM

Over 40 Jonas Samson Junior High students walked away from their last day of school with awards in hand.

The school held its Achievement Day June 26 which started with Bennett Honeyford playing the national anthem on the fiddle. Principal Jim Snodgrass then began the principal’s address by thanking staff, parents and all those who supported the school and its new playground.

Before handing out the awards, Snodgrass said farewell to all the Grade 8 and 9 students who will be moving on to Carpenter High School in the next school year. He then gave a speech to the students telling them to continue persevering and working hard.

Snodgrass then brought out and said goodbye to 10 teachers who are also leaving the school.

After the address, the teachers presented and gave out over 25 different awards to the students for their academic, athletic and extracurricular accomplishments.

Rebecca Lajeunesse won awards in academics, the SCC Book Prize and the Block/Boyko Excellence in Drama award.

“I’ve loved drama ever since I was really little and I’ve been working really hard to get this award,” Lajeunesse said. “It was really fun and it was fun to see everybody else get awards.”

Lajeunesse said she’s nervous to move on to Grade 10 in September but her friends and continuing with drama will help her get through.
