It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Roberta “Bobbi” Ruth Greiner (nee Nolan) Saturday morning, May 23, 2020. Her wait for heaven ended early that morning, leaving this earth peacefully in her sleep.
Bobbi was born on Feb 6, 1943 in Regina SK to her dear parents, Mazel (Cameron) and Dennis Nolan.
At age 3, Bobbi and her family moved to London ON where she grew up among family and friends. When Bobbi was 18, she was devastated by the loss of her mother to cancer. Shortly after, she graduated high school and then went on to get her degree in dietetics at UWO. She worked in the Victoria Hospital until she was invited to be the dietician in Hay River NWT. There she met the love of her life, Dwight Greiner. In August 1968 , they married in London, ON.
Their journey together began in Winnipeg, MB, then on to Yellowknife, NWT, where Dwight started his first home mission Nazarene church. During their years there, life took on a whole lot more growth with the excitement of the births of their first three children, Todd, Darcy, and Heidi. Such fun. Making much out of little, Bobbi filled their home and their tummies with love. She was fantastic at teaching, cooking, organizing, sewing, playing the piano, singing with Dwight.
Moves continued to be a part of their lives, going to Prince George, BC, Moose Jaw, SK, and Regina, SK, where their fourth child, Tim, was joyfully welcomed into the family, completing their world. Then in 1985, they moved on to Meadow Lake, SK where they built a home and put deeper roots down.
Bobbi and Dwight were very involved in their family life, communities, and church work. In 1998, they packed up their life in SK and moved to Abbotsford, BC, to be close to their newly arriving grandchildren. They especially loved those years! Intermingled in all that were some meaningful years with YWAM Associates in Deroche, BC. Bobbi’s health began declining, but she still stayed very involved with her kids and their families’ lives, church life, and work alongside her husband.
In 2013, she and Dwight, along with Todd and Heidi’s families, moved to Kimberley, BC, where their youngest son, Tim, was living with his family. After a long, slow journey of loss in Bobbi’s mobility, and a few devastating falls, Bobbi needed to move into the Pines (Kimberley special care home) where she lived the last 3 ½ years of her life. She was exceptionally cared for by Dr. Lunge, the nursing and recreational staff, as well as by her devoted husband, who spent nearly every day of those 3 ½ years at her side. Bobbi’s greatest joy in life was to be near her family, spending time with them, whether through playing games or just enjoying their company. The last two months of isolation due to the pandemic was an especially trying time for Bobbi as she missed her husband and family dearly. But she continued to keep her beautiful smile and was always so glad to have someone show up at her window for a brief visit!
Bobbi’s family is grateful that her passing was peaceful, but she will be greatly missed. Surviving her are her husband, Dwight Greiner; her children and their spouses, Todd and Laila Greiner, Darcy Greiner and Joel Smith, Heidi Greiner-Miller and Kevin Miller, and Tim and Sarah Greiner; and her grandchildren Mikhela, Maia, Huw, Mattea, Gretchen, Zeph, Lark, Daisy, Beau, and Wesley; and her stepmother, Mary Nolan.
Bobbi is predeceased by her parents, Mazel Nolan (1961) and Dennis Nolan (2000).
Bobbi was blessed with many rich friendships throughout her life. She always enjoyed time with family and friends. Her warm heart and contagious laugh will be remembered and missed by many.
Bobbi’s memorial was a quiet evening of remembering and cherishing that took place in her daughter’s home in Kimberley with all of her children and grandchildren present except for one of her granddaughters, who wasn’t able to travel home from Norway.
Our gratitude is deep to each one who loved and cared for her. You were a comfort to us all.
