Meadow Lake Curling Club turns a profit after upgrading building

Apr 30, 2019 | 2:10 PM

The Meadow Lake Curling Club saw a profit this year despite recent upgrades to the building. The renovations included upgrading the lighting and moving the heating from the floor to the ceiling.

The curling board members say they saved $1,875 on lighting from last year due to the upgrades.

The club is looking into upgrading more parts of the building. They want to add air conditioning in the upstairs lounge as well as replace the warping sideboards and walkways.

There was also an increase in memberships for all but one curling leagues. Mixed leagues was the only one down from last year.

Shannon Heddon, the general manager of the curling club, was happy to see new faces in the club with this year’s turnout.

Heddon was also enthusiastic about their partnership with the Meadow Lake Kinsmen as he said the Kinsmen would drive curlers to and from the bonspiels.

Heddon also said they made over $8,000 by fundraising at the Meadow Lake Mustang and Broncos hockey games.
