New public health measures to come into effect Friday
The Government of Saskatchewan have issued new COVID-19 measures as of Friday, to try to stem the transmission rates across the province. These measures impact restaurants, performance and gaming venues, indoor public events, sports, retail spaces and places of worship. They also include further mandatory masking.
The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab said it’s important “to stay the course for the next three weeks and see our numbers start trending down by the middle of December.”
At that point, measures will be reviewed and relaxed as appropriate, Shahab said, speaking at a press conference. If numbers continue to climb, however, further restrictions will have to be considered.
“Right now our numbers seem to be stabilizing,” he said.” But unfortunately if they start trending up again despite all these measures, unfortunately then further measures would have to be considered.”
