Meadow Lake experiencing above average temperatures heading into weekend

Mar 5, 2021 | 1:35 PM

Environment and Climate Change Canada says Meadow Lake will be basking in sunlight and above average temperatures over the next three days, setting the scene for a warmer welcome to the month of March.

On Friday, residents should be aware of a fog advisory stemming from the warmer temperatures. Conditions are expected to clear up as the day progresses and the temperatures settle in. Meteorologist Alysa Pederson said once conditions improve, the city will be set to enjoy sunlight and warmth throughout the weekend.

“What we have is an upper ridge moving into parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan. So we’re getting temperatures around 5 degrees for our daytime highs and plenty of sun. What a ridge does is it clears everything up, moves all the clouds north of the region, so it’ll be pretty nice,” Pederson said.

The average temperatures for the city at this time of year hover around -3 Celsius. Sitting a small margin above zero, this weekend’s temperatures while 5-10 degrees above the seasonal average, are not expected to push any of the daily records.

“We’re approaching it, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to be doing any record-breaking this weekend,” Pederson said.

The March 5 record high is 8.9 C while 10.1 C and 10.5 C are the records for March 6 and 7 respectively.
