Saskatchewan Government urges vaccinations through ad campaign

‘Stick it to Covid’ is the message coming today from the provincial government in a new advertisement campaign aimed at what the Premier called ‘looking after one another.’

Meanwhile, there continues to be sporadic displays by some who remain strongly opposed to the strict social restrictions.

The government’s ad campaign is encouraging Saskatchewan residents to get their vaccine.

The main 60 second ad is narrated by Regina emergency room nurse Leah Sawatsky. She was one of the first people in Saskatchewan to get the vaccine.

“Today, we are asking people to help us get back to normal by rolling up their sleeves to stick it to COVID,” Premier Scott Moe said in a Monday morning press release. “Saskatchewan’s vaccination efforts have been the most effective in the nation because Saskatchewan people know that the best thing that we can do to protect ourselves, others, and to get back to doing the things we love is by getting vaccinated.”

The campaign will include TV ads, radio, and social media, billboards, washrooms, newspaper and cinema ads. Part Two will feature stories of the pandemic.

“These messages from Saskatchewan people are a reminder that when we get vaccinated, we aren’t just doing it for ourselves,” Moe said. “We are doing it to protect those around us, which is what we do in this province. We look after one another.”

Health minister Paul Merriman also encouraged residents to watch the videos and reflect on who they will be keeping safe by getting the vaccine.

Anti lockdown

As residents are being asked to remain diligent in following restrictions and getting vaccinated when they are able to, examples of some not wanting to fall in line have again been seen in some areas.

Small rallies were seen in Nipawin and Prince Albert on the weekend.

On the Saskatchewan Freedom Revolution Facebook page, member Darcy Higgins posted pictures of other rally members in Nipawin on Sunday.

Higgins wrote, “Just seven of us this day. But we were all happy to be there. And more determined than ever to let people know that our rights and freedoms are some of our most valuable possessions. And we will not give them up with out a fight.”

Rallies have been held several times in Nipawin over the last month.

A small group of protesters were seen gathered with similar messages near the Prince Albert Court of Queens bench, one carrying a placard that seemed to criticize the ongoing restrictions on visiting seniors in care.

“Our grandparents are not your prisoners,” it read.

Previously, a group came together for a freedom rally in the Battlefords as well to protest COVID-19 restrictions.
