Frozen mangos recalled over possible Hepatitis A contamination

Saskatchewan residents are being advised to return or throw out certain brands of frozen mangoes available in the province.

The recall is due to risk of Hepatitis A contamination in the products.

No known cases of Hepatitis A in the province have been linked to the frozen mangos yet, but two have been reported in Quebec and one in Nova Scotia.

The recall includes:

• President’s Choice Mango Chunks (frozen), 600 g, best before Nov. 6 and Nov. 10, 2022.
• Nature’s Touch Mangoes (frozen), 2 kg, best before Nov. 9, 2022.
• Irresistibles Mango Chunks (frozen), 600 g, best before Nov. 10, 2022.
• Compliments Mango Mania (frozen), 600 g, best before Nov. 10 and Dec. 18, 2022.

At least one of the above products, President’s Choice Mango Chunks, was distributed in the province, according to a release Friday.

Recalled products should be disposed of or returned to the store they were purchased from.

Food contaminated with Hepatitis A may not look or smell spoiled. Anyone who has consumed one of these products within the past two weeks should contact their local public health office.

Anyone with signs of a Hepatitis A infection should call their doctor or 811. Signs of the virus can include fever, dark urine, loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps or abdominal pain and yellowing of the skin or eyes.

The Public Health Agency of Canada posts the latest updates on possible Hepatitis A outbreaks online.
