Province reports 90 new cases of COVID-19; active cases below 1,000 again

There were 90 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Saskatchewan today, but no new deaths.

In Northern Saskatchewan, the new cases were located in the Far North West (six), Far North East (four), North West (seven), North Central (seven), and North East (two).

There are 994 active cases and 78,663 are considered recovered.

One third (33.3 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39 years.

Almost one-half (45.1 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years older and older) was fully vaccinated.

As of Nov. 24, a total of 148 individuals are in hospital, including 37 in ICU Of the 148 patients, 99 (66.9 per cent) were not fully vaccinated. In addition to the Saskatchewan ICU counts, there are seven residents receiving out of province care in hospital.

To date, 914 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with a case fatality rate of 1.1 per cent.

According to a post on the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA) Facebook page, pediatric (five – 11 years old) walk-in clinics for COVID-19 vaccinations will begin in certain communities on Thursday, Nov. 25 in Prince Albert, the Battlefords (drive-thru), Meadow Lake, Beauval, Bigger, Eston, Glaslyn, Humboldt, Invermay, Loon Lake, Yorkton, Wadena and Weyburn. Booked appointments are also available for pediatric vaccinations.

NITHA data

As of Nov. 23, there were no new cases to report in Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) communities. There are 37 active cases.

These cases are located in the Far North West, (14); Far North East, (seven); North Central, (15); and North East, (one).

Of the eight people that are currently hospitalized, only one was fully vaccinated. The other seven were not vaccinated at all.

NITHA public health officials are advising northern residents that COVID-19 variants of concern (VOC) are increasing in northern Saskatchewan. These VOCs are 30 to 70 per cent more transmissible.
